The service can be viewed via live streaming on a special memorial website.

Meijer died Friday at Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids after having a stroke in his home. He was 91.

The Rev. Richard Rhem, former pastor of Christ Community Church in Spring Lake, was listed on a memorial website for Meijer as a participant in today's private service.

A moment of silence also was planned at Meijer stores.

Meijer was a native of Greenville, where his Dutch-immigrant father Hendrik opened a grocery store in 1934. The son built the regional retail powerhouse Meijer Inc.

Meijer spokesman Frank Guglielmi said about 5,000 people attended Tuesday’s visitation at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
