November, autumn weather warmer than average

The month of November and the autumn season on the Lakeshore were both warmer than the average - with nearly average precipitation, but with much less snowfall than usual - according to meteorologists.

Official National Weather Service temperatures from the Muskegon County Airport in November averaged 44.2, 4 degrees above average, making it the sixth warmest on record and 1.6 degrees warmer than last year (42.6). Twenty days were warmer than average, nine were cooler and one was average. 

The highest temperature (64) occurred on Nov. 13, while the lowest temperature (26) occurred on Nov. 23.

The autumn season (September, October and November) averaged 52.6 degrees, or 1.6 above average but 0.1 cooler than last autumn (52.7).

Precipitation was nearly average last month with 3.28 inches, or 0.08 less than usual but 1.82 more than last year (1.46). There were seven days with measurable precipitation, which was seven days less than average (14). 

Autumn precipitation was nearly average with 10.38 inches, or 0.02 more than usual and 0.54 more than last autumn (9.84).

Snowfall in November amounted to a tenth of an inch, 5.9 inches less than usual but 0.1 more than last year (trace). Autumn snowfall was also 0.1 inch, 6.1 inches less than usual and also 0.1 more than last year (trace).
