GHHS choirs sing loud for Love INC

The Grand Haven High School choirs hit plenty of high notes Saturday, but perhaps the highest note of all was the nearly $5,000 they raised for Love INC.

The school’s chorus, chorale, concert choir, petite ensemble and choral ensemble attracted about 1,000 concert-goers to afternoon and evening “Songs for a Better World” shows at the Grand Haven High School Performing Arts Center.

The notes struck close to chorus member Michaela Brewer’s heart. The freshman said Love INC assists her single mom and her family.

“My mom has gone there for help,” said Brewer, 14. “They’ve given her food and stuff. It’s been such a blessing for my family. It’s super cool to be doing something for Love INC because they’ve really helped my family a lot.”

Love INC Executive Director Eric Morgan said besides helping community members who have fallen on hard times, his organization offers love and hope.

On Saturday, local dignitaries and more than 200 singing students served up the same.

“This event is what our community is all about,” Morgan said of the two-hour shows that were laced with songs of love and inspiration. “It really is a collaboration of everyone in this city. It was absolutely amazing and a great representation of how our community can work together to help people who are struggling.”

Composer Rollo Dilworth wrote an analogous arrangement for the event, called “Oh What a Beautiful City.” Choir members swayed and clapped through Dilworth’s direction of the composition’s debut.
