Bush running for drain commissioner

Joe Bush of Olive Township has announced his candidacy for Ottawa County drain commissioner. Bush, who is running as a Republican, is seeking to replace Drain Commissioner Paul Geerlings.

Geerlings plans to retire when his term ends at the end of 2012.

The county drain commissioner oversees all established intracounty drains and intercounty drains, Bush said. The commissioner is also responsible for soil and erosion, and sedimentation control.

Bush is currently employed by the Ottawa County Road Commission. He and his wife, Laura, live in Olive Township with their two children: Lindsey and Emily.
