Religious gift shop opens on Harbor Drive

A religious store on Harbor Drive may be new for the Tri-Cities area, but it has a longer history serving West Michigan.

“My wife and I bought the store three years ago and decided to move it to Grand Haven because there was nothing like it along the Lakeshore,” said Lance Wolters, who owns God’s Gifts Catholic Store with his wife, Lynn.

The store has been around for 14 years and was previously located in Wyoming. The Wolters moved the store in December 2011 to 20B N. Harbor Ave. in Grand Haven, in the other half of the Wirick’s Office Supply building.

“We took what was at one time their retail space,” Lance Wolters said, adding the office supply company still has a presence in the other half of the building.

The process that eventually led the couple to Grand Haven began several years ago when gift shopping.

“We went looking for a first-communion gift for our son,” Wolters said.

After trying two religious gift stores along the Lakeshore that were closed — one in Holland and one in Grand Haven — the couple was eventually referred to the Wyoming store. Upon arrival, Wolters said they found out the store was for sale and decided to eventually purchase it.

The Ferrysburg couple will be celebrating a grand opening for their store on Saturday. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; it is closed Sundays.

I went into the God's Gift store in Grand Haven on their grand opening on the 28th of January. The Walters, (corrected spelling of last name), have done a great job of transfering their store from Wyoming Mi. to this location.

I know their store will greatly benefit the area and keep the community well stocked with the Word of God, in their sales of Bibles, unique greeting cards that are for so many situations, driftwood Crosses made by a local artisan, communion items, beautiful manger sets for Christmas. The selection of wall Crosses and pictures are just outstanding.

I highly recommend a trip to Grand Haven, Michigan to visit this awsome city, and make a stop in to see Lynn and Lance, and check out the great selection of items they carry.

God bless Lynn and Lance, and their family, as well as the community of Grand Haven, this is a cool little town with great people.

The shop is a fresh sight in the dockyard. Religious shops should be many, we sure can make use of shops like this one. - Markus Lattner
