Four men and two women have applied for the two vacant seats on City Council. The seated council will review the applications and the applicants will be asked to make a presentation at council’s meeting Monday night.

“(Council) may make a decision Monday night,” City Clerk Debbie Wierenga said. “That’s totally up to council.”

The applicants are: Michael DeWitt, 59, 16920 VanWagoner Road; Kathleen Kennedy, 44, 16814 Cecilia Lane; Karen O’Donnell, 56, 540 Ferry St.; John Stafford, 56, 504 Fifth St.; Mark Vukovich, 45, 16898 Royal Ave.; and Irving Albert Young Jr., 67, 17643 North Shore Road.

Stafford had served on council from 2006 until last year when he lost a mayoral bid to fellow Councilman Dan Ruiter. Ruiter won the election, 270-88.

Since no candidate stepped forward to run for the council member seat Stafford was vacating last year, it became open. It is a nearly full four-year term that expires Nov. 16, 2015.

The other seat is the one Ruiter vacated when he sought the mayor’s post. Its term expires Nov. 18, 2013.

The council meeting will be held at Ferrysburg City Hall, 17290 Roosevelt Road, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
