Boxes of free food consisting of boxed and canned goods are distributed by Community Action Agency through The Emergency Food Assistance Program. The food originates from the Michigan Department Of Agriculture.
The boxes of food are intended to assist low-income families and each box weighs approximately 25 pounds.
There are income guidelines that each household must follow to receive its free box of food. Families must prove Ottawa County residence, but no paperwork is necessary and only verbal approval is required.
The four locations and the times they are open for distribution are below:
— Community Action House, 345 W. 14th St. in Holland (new location), open 1-3 p.m.
— Love INC of Southeast Ottawa County, 3300 Van Buren St. in Hudsonville, open 1-3 p.m.
— St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 920 Fulton Ave. in Grand Haven, open 10 a.m. to noon.
— VFW Post 5598, 511 N. 68th Ave. in Coopersville, open 10 a.m. to noon.
Families are allowed food from one location only. Families who are recipients of the Family Independence Program (FIP) or the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) are automatically eligible.
