The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids said snow will become heavy late tonight and early Friday, before tapering off Friday afternoon. The weather bureau expects 6-10 inches in the warning area, with locally heavier amounts of up to a foot possible by noon Friday.

This will be a heavy wet snow with temperatures near freezing during most of the event. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are expected between 11 tonight and 9 a.m. Friday. Winds will gust to 25 mph from the northwest toward mid-morning Friday.

Impacts:

— Hazardous driving conditions developing tonight, with low visibilities and heavy wet snow.

— Some localized power outages possible due the heavy wet snow and gusty winds by late morning Friday.

— Friday morning commute delays are likely from heavy snowfall overnight.

— There could be some school and related activity closures Friday morning due to the heavy wet snow and gusty winds.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reminds motorists to adjust speeds based on the conditions, and to take it slow in ice and snow.
