“Psalms: The Art of Illumination” brings together 15 artists and 28 works that pairs each piece with a Psalm, giving greater insight into both the passage and the artistic rendering. The show features contrasting styles of artists’ responses: fiber arts, oils, watercolor, photography, collage, bronze sculpture and acrylics.

The artists represented in the show include Karen Katje of Grand Haven.

A congregation-wide reading of the Psalms for the Lenten season, an Ash Wednesday reading of various Psalms and seven sermons are coinciding with the exhibit. A banner was also created with the drawn hands of the congregation lifted up in prayer.

This show is the 30th exhibit of the Grand Haven church’s seven-year-old gallery. The show was previously at Calvin College’s Center Art Gallery for the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship Symposium, which focused on the theme of the Psalms.

The exhibit runs through May 20.

Gallery hours at the church, located at the corner of Sheldon and Robbins roads, are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and Fridays until noon. Special arrangements for off-hour visits can be made by calling the church office at 842-0710.
