Showcase is the annual celebration of excellence for high school youth in West Michigan. Students are selected by their respective schools in the competitive areas of literary arts, performing arts and visual arts; and the noncompetitive areas of academics and athletics. Monetary awards are given in the competitive categories for first, second and third place — including a Showstopper award in the Performing Arts category.

Since 1981, high school students from five counties (Muskegon, Oceana, Newaygo, Mason and northern Ottawa) have been recognized. For many of these students, this will be the shining moment of their high school years; for others, the beginning of an amateur or professional career as actors, musicians, writers, athletes and artists.

Showcase 2012 will be held at the Frauenthal Theater in downtown Muskegon with performances on Wednesday and Thursday, March 14-15, beginning at 7 both evenings.

Tickets for either of the Showcase performances are $8 for adults, and $6.50 for senior citizens and students. Tickets may be obtained from the Frauenthal Theater box office, by calling Star Tickets at 800-585-3737, or on the StarTickets’ website at www.startickets.com.

The Visual Arts entries will be showcased in an exhibit at the Bettye Clark Cannon Gallery, in the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts, March 2-22. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit will also be open on performance nights.
