“Disaster Services: An Overview” will take place at the American Red Cross office, 313 W. Webster Ave. in Muskegon from 5-9 p.m. Monday, March 12.

This course is a prerequisite for all advanced disaster training offered for American Red Cross disaster volunteers. It is open to the public is an entry-level instructor-led course.

The training will prepare potential volunteers to understand the Red Cross role in disaster relief and prepare the participant for further training that will allow the participant to assist in responding to house fires, managing a shelter, feeding, meeting medical needs and providing emotional support to disaster victims.

“People do not always realize how simple it is to become a volunteer who will provide hands-on help to our neighbors when their home is destroyed by a disaster — either right here in our community or across the United States,” said Sue Gray, a Disaster Action Team volunteer and trainer.

There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration is required. Call 231-720-4243 to reserve a seat.
