The annual award honors one local woman considered outstanding in one or more of the following areas:
— Volunteer work. A nominee must be active at a policy-making level, spending many hours directing and shaping the community into a better place to live and work.
— Professional accomplishments. A nominee must have achieved professional excellence or business achievements such that colleagues endorse and recognize her superior abilities.
— Personal qualities. A nominee is aware of her obligation to herself, family and society. She exemplifies a high degree of personal ethics.
Those previously honored by this award include Doris VanDam, Eunice Bareham, Marge Boon, Edith Swart, Marianne Van Eenenaam, Mary Creason, Carol DeBlaey, Carol Bedford, Connie Farrell, Barbara Johnson, Karen Benson, Judge Susan Jonas, Lynne Kinkema, Shirley Lemon, Bobbi Jones Sabine and Cindy Anderson.
Any community member may nominate any woman living or working in Northwest Ottawa County. Counterpart encourages re-nomination of past nominees for consideration.
Nomination forms are available on the Counterpart website, mycounterpart.wordpress.com. Mail the nomination to: Counterpart, P.O. Box 356, Grand Haven, MI 49417. The deadline March 31.
If you wish to re-nominate a candidate from last year, it is not necessary to re-write the entire nomination form, as last year’s nominations are still on file. Simply fill in your name, phone number and/or e-mail address and the name of the candidate you are re-nominating. You may enclose additional information regarding the candidate’s accomplishments during the past year.
A selection committee will choose the recipient of the award. It will be presented at a Counterpart luncheon meeting in May.
