State park swept

A sneak preview of summer has led crews at Grand Haven State Park to tidy up the beach.

On Tuesday, the park’s beach cleaner skimmed the surface for debris.

“It picks up everything as big as a cigarette,” park supervisor Joyce Rhodes said.

Rhodes said the park acquired the machine last fall, and this is the first time it has been put to use.

The thermometer hit 82 at the Muskegon County Airport at 2:55 this afternoon, a new record high for March 20. The old record of 73 dates back to 1903. The normal high for this date in Muskegon is 45.
