The $2,179,586 raised in the campaign is the highest amount the Greater Ottawa County United Way has raised in the past five years.
“We set an ambitious target at $2.3 million, which we recognized as a stretch goal,” said Scott Remenschneider, the 2011-12 campaign chairman. “The people of Ottawa County recognized this as well, and rallied to the cause. We succeeded in creating a campaign that was full of energy and optimism … a campaign that propelled the United Way message into a larger number of Ottawa County homes and hearts.”
The campaign results were announced at the agency’s annual Celebration Dinner, held Tuesday night at the Spring Lake Country Club.
The 2010-11 campaign raised $2.03 million.
The total dollars from corporations, employees, other individuals and special events were all up from last year. The number of employees giving to the charity increased from 7,635 to 9,296, but the average gift dropped from $184 per employee to $159.
