Today's forecast

So it wasn't supposed to quite get to 70 on Thursday, eh? At least that was the forecast in the early morning. We ended up with another record high for the date.

The thermometer at the Muskegon County Airport, the closest official gauge for Grand Haven, was 81 at mid-afternoon Thursday. That smashed the record high for Muskegon on March 22, which was 68 set in 1979.

As you can see below, the forecast for today calls for a high in the upper 60s. Keep in mind that the normal high for March 23 here is just 46, but the record high is 73 (set in 1907).

The forecast for the Grand Haven area today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 68. Southeast wind at 3-7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 50. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 60. South-southeast wind at 7 mph, becoming west.
