GHHS wins Science Olympiad regionals

Grand Haven High School won the Science Olympiad regional tournament Saturday, the 21st time in the school's 27-year history of participation.

Grand Haven's two middle schools took two of the top three spots in the middle school division at he 28th annual Michigan Region 12 Science Olympiad tournament at Grand Valley State University. Lakeshore took first place and White Pines was third.

All three teams will continue on to the Michigan Science Olympiad state tournament on April 28 at Michigan State University. GHHS is the defending state champion and has won 14 state tournaments in the last 17 years, including the last six years in a row.

There were 22 high school teams and 46 middle school teams competing from Kent and Ottawa counties in the regional tournament.

Medals were awarded to the participants of the top six placing teams in the 23 individual events. GHHS students received medals in 20 of the 23 events.
