Temperatures will fall below freezing possibly as early as midnight, and into the mid to upper 20s in many locations early Tuesday. The weather bureau forecasts a low of around 30 for the Grand Haven area overnight.
At 11 p.m., temperatures along the Lakeshore ranged from 30 at Ludington to 40 in Muskegon, South Haven and Benton Harbor. It was 34 in Grand Rapids.
Due to the unusually warm weather of the past week or so, plants and trees have bud and emerged much earlier than normal. Temperatures below freezing will make sensitive vegetation vulnerable to a damaging freeze.
Those with agricultural interests in the warning area are advised to protect tender vegetation. Also, potted plants normally left outdoors should be covered or brought inside.
