Pinwheels of hope

Their silver and blue wings glint in the sunlight as they spin in the wind. Workers planted hundreds of the pinwheels throughout Ottawa County on Monday to bring awareness of child abuse and neglect.

In the county, 2,366 children were in families investigated for child abuse and neglect in 2010, and 324 of those children were confirmed victims of abuse and neglect. Ninety-seven of those children were placed in out-of-home care.

You’ll see the pinwheel gardens at Allendale Love INC, Allendale Township Hall, Children’s Advocacy Center, Center for Women in Transition, Fairway Church, Grand Haven Public Safety, Pathways MI, Herrick District Library and Zeeland Police Department.
