The celebration will begin with a public party from 6-7:30 p.m. at 208 Franklin Ave. Following the celebration, book club volunteers will distribute books randomly to people in downtown Grand Haven.

The April 23 date is significant to readers. It is UNESCO’s World Book Day; as well as the date of Miguel Cervantes’ death, and William Shakespeare’s birth and death.

Launched last year in the United Kingdom, World Book Night is planned to be a worldwide celebration of books and the love of reading. This year’s event, which is designed to be local and carried out by volunteers, has expanded to include the U.S. and Ireland.
