“I do think we’re going to see more interest in the art project,” MSDDA Executive Director Dana Kollewehr said. “There has been a lot of positive reaction so far.”
Similar to the 2011 Rocket Fish project, Grand Haven arf Walk involves both large and small wooden sculptures for sale to businesses, artists and individuals.
The MSDDA’s Preservation & Place Committee created the concept. It is the same team that invented last year's Rocket Fish project.
“Grand Haven arf Walk is a fundraiser for the MSDDA that allows us to pay for district improvements like banners, historic projects and landscaping installations," Kollewehr said. "Whatever we make from this project, we will put right back into the community.”
Arf Walk has both Big Dog and Little Dog sculptures, like last year’s Big Fish and Minnows. The large dogs measure approximately 4 feet wide – with just the tip of the tail reaching 6 feet tall.
Little Dogs will be on sale for $35 each at Michigan Rag Co., 121 Washington; and The Paper Place, 118 Washington, beginning Friday. The Big Dogs must be pre-ordered for $250 at the MSDDA office, 20 N. Fifth St.
