“The new space is so much nicer for customers,” said Jeff DeVries, manager of the Eastown store. “We have room to show customers how a kite bar and line set works, or room to lay out a kite so that the customer can see the size.”
DeVries said they will run their stand-up paddle lessons out of this new showroom as well.
“It will allow us a space for the group to gather and get prepared to go out,” he said, adding that the store will offer sunblock, sunglasses, Chums and other products people may have forgotten at home. “It’s a full-service retail space.”
MACkite owner Steve Negen said the new Eastown store was the result of their growing online business.
“We rented it out with the purpose of being a mail-order warehouse,” Negen said.
Prior the new location, they would ship from the basement of the downtown store.
MACkite will be celebrating the grand opening of the Eastown boardsports center and the remodel of the downtown surf shop location from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
