Spring Lake Deputy Fire Chief Jim Koster said the fire department responded to a call for help at about 5:17 p.m.

The couple was in the elevator for about 20 minutes, Koster said. The man was checked by paramedics from North Ottawa Community Hospital, but was OK, he said.

Koster said a Consumers Energy planned outage went off as expected about 5 a.m. Sunday. Consumers Energy officials were not able to determine the exact problem when the power went out late in the afternoon.

Power was out from about Williams Street (by St. Mary’s Church) all the way to the M-104 bridge, Koster said. Old Boy’s Restaurant was also without power.

Backup generators surged on during the outage, at both the fire station, located at the Spring Lake Township Hall on Buchanan Street, as well as at the pump house adjacent to Tanglefoot Park on Exchange Street.

Koster said this pump house is important because it pumps sewage from Spring Lake and Ferrysburg over to Grand Haven.

"Koster said this pump house is important because it pumps sewage from Spring Lake and Ferrysburg over to Grand Haven"

And what would Spring Lake and Ferrysburg be if it didn't have Grand Haven to pump its sewage to?

This is Holiday Inns fault. They recieved numerous warnings of the power being cut and they didnt shut down the elevators.

Ted - who cares? These people were in an elevator for 20 minutes. It isn't the end of the world. Three hours?.....big issue. Twenty minutes?.....no issue.

Ted, why the name calling? The planned power outage was at 5 AM, this power outage was at 5:17 PM. The story even says the outage was "unexpected." How is that the Holiday Inn's fault?
