MAILBAG: Back issues of the Tribune

A week hardly passes when we don't get at least one inquiry for a back issue of the Tribune.

Sometimes it's just a week or two ago, but occasionally someone asks for an issue that ran years ago.

The latest one to cross my desk came from Cindy of Holland. She asked for a copy of the Tribune that ran a story about her stepson playing football for the Grand Haven Bucs. She figures it ran in 2003 or 2004.

We do keep copies for sale at our front desk that date back a few weeks, even months. We'll be delighted to sell you a single copy, or more if we have them.

However, if it's more than a few months ago (such as Cindy's case, eight or nine years ago), you will need to visit Loutit District Library's local history room. They have all the Tribune's daily newspapers on microfilm dating back to the 19th century.

The library is at 407 Columbus Ave. in Grand Haven.

Besides, keeping years and years of old newspapers is a fire hazard.

Do you have a question for the Tribune? E-mail it to, and type MAILBAG in the subject line. Or mail it the old-fashioned way to: Grand Haven Tribune, MAILBAG, 101 N. Third St., Grand Haven, MI 49417. You can even fax it to us at 616-842-9584. We'll do our best to get you an answer!

Has the tribune considered having archives on their website as part of their subscriber fee? This would be a great resource for the community and given the new fee for your services, something that would warrant a fee.

Now we know that when we miss an edition of the Tribune, there is something we can go to. Bringing back editions again is a good idea. - Markus Lattner
