The Fruitport Township Board recently discussed a special assessment district for the area, which would pave the way for equal payments for snow-removal services on the roads.
Dels Drive residents, as well as 2882 and 2898 Black Creek Road, are seeking plowing services for the upcoming winter. Previously, payments for these services were not mandatory, and many of the residents say everyone should pay a fair share.
Tia Watkins and her husband moved into their home at 2397 Dels Drive in February, and say they were bombarded for money before moving trucks were even in the driveway. When a disagreement about paying arose, Watkins said one neighbor threatened them.
The residents eventually organized and began the work of establishing a special assessment district. In order for this to happen, they needed 50 percent of the owners of property with road frontage to get on board. They received support from 80 percent.
