Soldier from Holland killed in Afghanistan

A Marine from West Michigan has died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Gunnery Sgt. Daniel J. Price, 27, of Holland was killed July 29.

Gunnery Sgt. Jonathan W. Gifford, 34, of Palm Bay, Fla., was killed with Price while they were conducting combat operations in Badghis province, Afghanistan.

Price was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, issued the following statement upon learning of the death of Price: "While the details are not clear, a hero from Holland has lost his life defending freedom. Let us all take a moment to remember Gunnery Sgt. Price's courage, dedication and commitment to freedom. And let us also hold his family in our hearts and pray for the loved ones he has left behind."
