County siren test today, but not here

The monthly siren test for most communities in Ottawa County is at noon today.

Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Conklin areas will not be tested this month due to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival.

Georgetown, Hudsonville and Zeeland areas will test the sirens for their own jurisdictions in coordination with Ottawa County Emergency Management.

This month's test will use individual jurisdiction activation tones, which will sound in sequence throughout the county. This means that instead of sounding all county sirens simultaneously, several sirens in one area are activated, then the following area, etc., until testing is complete. This could mean that some communities may hear the sirens slightly after the noon hour — as each area is activated separately, one after the other.

Emergency siren tests take place on the first Friday of each month through the month of November. The next scheduled test is Sept. 7.
