Local buses reach milestone

Harbor Transit officials say their service is safe - and they have the numbers to prove it.

The local transit agency said there have been no "chargeable" accidents involving the public with any of its drivers or vehicles for the past 18 months.

“We are extremely proud of this achievement,” Grand Haven Transportation Director Tom Manderscheid said. “This is further evidence of the care and professionalism that Harbor Transit drivers demonstrate each and every day, and represents the high-water mark for driver safety since I began here almost four years ago.”

Transit officials said there’ve been no accident claims filed with the agency's insurance carrier, and there have been no lost-time injuries or medical claims resulting from an on-road accident since February 2011.

“This is one more illustration of our ongoing commitment on the part of all of the drivers to transport riders in the most efficient and safe way possible,” Manderscheid said.
