The public event was held on Cecelia Street on the north side of the bayou.

Cecelia Street resident Kathy Kennedy took the People’s Choice award with her “Birthday Girl” white chili. The Ferrysburg city councilwoman also won the White Chili category.

The Judges’ Choice award went to Ivan Perez for his "Cowboy Chili." He also took first place in the Hot and Spicy category.

Gorday Scholten took first place in the Meek and Mild category.

“We selected Wings of Mercy because I had been involved with the organization in the past," said Rebecca Hopp, who organized the event with JoAnn Grotemat. "And, as a local nonprofit (organization), community support is what allows them to continue to assist those in need.”
