MAILBAG: Is watering bike paths OK?

Ed of Grand Haven Township asked, "Is it against the law to irrigate across a bike path in the township?"

p? I'm not talking about poorly aimed sprinkler heads — I'm talking about intentionally watering the grass between the path and the street via a sprinkler head on one's lawn. Is it OK that the homeowner determines that users of the path should get watered as well?"

It may be irritating to walkers and bicyclists on the path, but apparently it's not against the law.

"Residents cannot leave unattended garden hoses or sprinklers on the pathway," Grand Haven Township Manager Bill Cargo explained to us. "But there is not any township rule that prevents people from getting 'sprinkled' upon while using the pathway."

So, sprinklers and hoses need to be off the path, but the water can go there if it so chooses.

"Is it OK that the homeowner determines that users of the path should get watered as well?" Yes, they are all "wet" anyway for complaining about such trivial things.

Its too bad that some folks that actually choose to try and use the "bike paths" then have to put up with inconsiderate property owners that need to water across the path. I am not talking droplets but spraying across the path with numerous sprinklers. Then have to put up with snide remarks from "realists", that I can only imagine, only travel encased in 5000 pounds of climate controlled sheet metal and glass.
Its really an expression of the attitudes most people in this country seem to have toward others, I do what I want and who cares if it affects others around me!

Really? Does this topic even deserve a few lines? I'm so ashamed of myself for wasting time on a non issue.

Is this any different than the lighting ordinance that GH is looking t revise?

I don't think so!

Personal responsibility in consideration for those around you!

I agree, both are a waste of time.
