Doggin' up the park

The seventh- and eighth-graders from Walden Green Montessori School helped to spruce up the wall at Coast Guard Park on Wednesday.

Students from Western Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics will also get a chance to paint the wall. Previously, volunteers and members of the U.S. Coast Guard painted the grass and sky, and traced the dog drawings onto the wall.

“I think it’s neat to give back to the City of Ferrysburg, and to do something collaborative with the academy and the U.S. Coast Guard,” said Vickie Buckner, business manager at Walden Green.

Not trying to be negative, just curious.....what is this big cement wall for exactly? If it's part of the dog run enclosure wouldn't it have been just as effective to put up some 6ft high chain link fence? I was out there a couple days ago, before these kids were there obviously and wondered what the big ugly wall was there for...

That wall was part of the Coast Guard rifle range when it was active.
