North Ottawa Community Hospital hosted an open house for its Family Birthing Unit. It provided the public the opportunity to see changes that include new guest furniture, artwork, paint, fixtures and a remodeled nursing station.
The Healthy Futures 2012 campaign was the first fundraising effort for the North Ottawa Community Health System, spokeswoman Jen VanSkiver said. The Grand Haven-based health system recently established a fund development office geared toward philanthropic efforts and engaging the community.
VanSkiver said the health system wants to include the community more in its Healthy Futures 2013 campaign.
The $50,000 Family Birthing Unit renovation was funded by donations through the hospital's board, physicians, management and auxiliary. Internal campaigning efforts began in 2012 when hospital staff first raised $25,000, and the hospital auxiliary matched it with a $25,000 donation.
“If you’re passionate about something, you become engaged in it,” VanSkiver said.
