Beginning at 11:30 a.m., diners can enjoy a variety of soups, breads and cookies during the annual Soup for All benefit. Tickets are $10 per diner, and organizations and individuals can sponsor the event for $100.
The event is held in conjunction with National Homeless Awareness Week and serves as a fundraiser to address homeless issues in the area, said Karen Reenders, director of The People Center in Spring Lake and a member of the Soup For All committee.
“I think (the benefit) pulls the community together and raises awareness that we do have a homeless issue in our community,” Reenders said.
Last year, 251 participants attended the event and helped raise $9,627, Reenders said. In 2010, 292 diners raised $10,600.
Proceeds from the event will go into a fund. A change in the fund's rules this year will allow the committee to disperse the money immediately back into the community, Reenders said.
