Capt. Jay Davis is celebrating the local agency’s 90th year of service to those in need in Ottawa County.

The charitable organization will host a special open house from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus St.

Davis said the event is open to all.

“We continue our service to the community and are endeavoring to make a difference in people’s lives,” he noted.

For 90 years the local Salvation Army has reached out at times of need with everything from emergency and transitional housing to food pantry and utility assistance.

In 2012 thus far, the agency’s workers and volunteers have served 8,980 people, 2,015 families and made 650 nursing home visits.

Last year during Christmas the agency distributed 420 food certificates, served 710 children and 403 families, and gifted 3,550 toys.
