Winter storm warning

A winter storm warning is in effect for Ottawa County from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issued the warning for high winds and snow.

The snow is forecast to begin late Thursday and fall into Friday afternoon. Wind gusts to 50 mph are expected Thursday night and Friday, with blowing and drifting snow on Friday.

Impacts:

— Snow-covered roads late Thursday night and Friday.

— Reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow beginning late Thursday and continuing through Friday.

— Some power outages will be possible due to the strong winds.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Thursday: Showers. High near 42. East wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 10 p.m. Low around 31. Blustery, with a light and variable wind becoming north-northwest at 17 to 22 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Friday: Snow showers with widespread blowing snow. High near 32. Breezy, with a north-northwest wind 22 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
