Heavy snow coats Tri-Cities

Between 12-16 inches of heavy snow coated the Grand Haven area by this morning. All area schools closed, and plow-truck drivers are working furiously to dig out roads, driveways and parking lots all over town.

Be aware that travel conditions are likely to continue to be very hazardous. The heavy, wet nature of this snowfall will also make shoveling much more difficult.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reminds motorists to adjust speeds based on conditions, and to take it slow in ice and snow.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Today: A 30 percent chance of snow before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 29. North wind 15 to 17 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 15. North wind 6 to 14 mph.
