Lent: Give up and take on

"I know I’m several days late, but it’s never too late to start bettering yourself," the Grand Haven woman writes in her Valentine's Day blog, "40 days of health."

But no matter if you're Christian or not, Turek says giving things up for Lent is "a great way to test your strength, endurance, self-respect, self-restraint and determination to become a better you."

She lists several things that you could give up that would improve your health, several more things to "take on" that would promote a healthier lifestyle, some things to swap and a few more to "add in."

"There are plenty of things you can do to better yourself, better your health, better your relationships and even better your sleep," Turek wrote. "Choose something or take something away, and make the commitment to yourself. It’s only 40 days — what have you got to lose?"
