Winter weather advisory

The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for Ottawa County, effective from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

The weather bureau said 1-2 inches of snow could fall in a couple of hours during the Friday morning commute. Visibilities could drop below a half-mile and snow could rapidly accumulate on the roads.

Be prepared for travel delays Friday morning.

There is also a chance for freezing drizzle Friday and Friday night.

The advisory area includes Ottawa, Muskegon, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Friday: Snow and freezing drizzle. High near 33. Breezy, with a east-southeast wind 15 to 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New ice accumulation of less than a tenth of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Friday night: A chance of snow and freezing drizzle. Cloudy, with a low around 28. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
