Cynthia Neil-Wierenga, 49, of Grand Haven, and her passenger were taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital following the 7:20 a.m. crash, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. Their injuries were reported as minor.
The driver of the other vehicle, Tom Baetens, 58, of Holland, was not injured.
Baetens said he was heading to Grand Haven for a Rotary Board meeting. He was northbound on Lakeshore when a southbound VW Jetta swerved into his lane. They collided almost head-on.
“Apparently someone pulled out of a driveway and she swerved,” Baetens said. “I couldn’t avoid her, it was so quick.”
The two vehicles then crashed into a snow bank on the east side of the road.
Baetens said the driver of the other vehicle was put on a backboard and taken away in the ambulance. The woman’s daughter walked to the ambulance.
He said he believed the mother was taking the daughter to Grand Haven High School.
“All that terrible weather last month and it happens on a clean drive,” he said.
