"I want to share God's awesome creation that I have been blessed to experience in my life," the Rockford man wrote in the introduction to his blog, "Walk with Father Nature." "I will offer viewers opportunities to increase their awareness of nature through my writing, my photography and observations. I'll promote books to read, trails to hike, places to visit, and ways to look closer and deeper at nature. I hope to encourage my viewers to get outside and explore with curiosity — to be grateful for these gifts from God."
A poem ("Water Wheel Waiting") accompanied Havenga's photo at right:
late February, fresh snow
too fresh for animal tracks
water wheel on Honey Creek
held in winter's strong grip
partitions outlined in white
constant flow of clear water
endless flow of water
water flowing
water wheel
will turn again
will resume rotating
with the pulse of spring
