The run was held Tuesday evening in Portage.

Brett Beier said he posted the idea for the memorial run on the Kalamazoo Area Runners' Facebook page Monday evening and got strong response.

Beier said he wanted everyone to run the first half-mile together in honor of all the runners who weren't able to run the last half-mile of the marathon following Monday's attack.

Also Tuesday night, students at the University of Michigan-Flint campus held a candlelight vigil for the victims of Monday's bombing in Boston.
