The work, called “The Windows,” is in memory of youth librarian Marilyn J. Brown at the Herrick District Library in Holland. It was dedicated this month.
Adam Dahlstrom received his education at Grand Valley State University, with a semester spent at Kingston University in Kingston, England. He's been in a number of shows throughout Michigan since that time, including appearances in the Grand Rapids Festival and Muskegon Regional juried shows, and group and solo shows throughout Michigan.
"The Windows" is a mixed-media collage (acrylic paint, ink, colored pencil, cut paper) composed on 20 wood panels.
It's inspired in part by large woven tapestries, mosaics and stained glass windows that are part of architecture. While it depicts an imaginary landscape, it is also inspired by a large purple cloud Dahlstrom saw while driving across state, wet lands near his house, and Lake Michigan.
The piece is on display at the Holland library.
