Mich. Democrats push measures to halt gun violence

Michigan House Democrats are introducing legislation aimed at reducing gun violence in Michigan, including expanding background checks for gun purchases.

Reps. Jim Townsend of Royal Oak, Vicki Barnett of Farmington Hills and Andy Schor of Lansing announced the legislation Thursday.

One of the measures would expand the current permit-to-purchase process for pistols to all guns. Townsend said his legislation would require residents buying any kind of gun to get a permit from local law enforcement and pass a background check. That process currently only applies to pistols.

Another measure would ensure that insurance co-pays for physical health services and mental health services are the same. This is required under the federal Affordable Health Care Act, but Barnett said it won't apply to people on large employer plans until 2017.

Hey Vlad, maybe we should chip in and get ole Lan signed up for Fox news subscription so she can get some fair and balanced news reports instead of just reading all the left wing garbage that's out there.

I'd gladly pay my fair share except, it's there for free. You can lead a filly to water but you can't make her drink and all that. Perhaps a subscription to Heritage would encourage an expanding of horizons beyond Chris Matthews and Kos.

Or maybe some quotes from the cowboy philosophy would help. Since I expect to be excoriated for the filly reference, I'll add one piece of helpful cowboy advice: "Always drink upstream from the herd." (The herd being, of course, progressive websites).

What's a dead broke horse like you reading the Daily Kos? I hope you don't get caught. Actually, I rounded up my information from the NYT (haven't read the Daily Kos since post-election - thanks for the reminder to check in once and awhile).

Would I excoriate you for referring to me as a "filly"? Naaayyyyy! Since I would probably fit into the "mare" category, being called a filly is a great compliment. Thanks!

All this and not word one about all the actual embassies (not consulates like Benghazi) that came under attack during the Bush Years, not to mention the dismissal of the intelligence coming in prior to 911. And it seems you agree with the House decision to cut foreign state budgets by hundreds of millions.

"More disclosures to follow". Please don't bate your breath while waiting....you want to be in good form so you can trounce on the evil Obama who singlehandedly orchestrated, carried out, covered up, and perpetrated the entire crises of a proportion never before seen or heard of in the annals of the history of civilization (source: Fox News).

Qouted from the Patriot Post:

Within days of the attack, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stood in front of the flag draped caskets of four dead Americans and asserted, "We've seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful Internet video that we had nothing to do with. It is hard for the American people to make sense of that, because it is senseless and totally unacceptable."

That was a lie worthy of her husband.

Obama spokesman Jay Carney asserted, "The unrest around the region has been in response to this video. We were not aware of any actionable intelligence indicating that an attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi was planned or imminent."

That, too, was a lie.

Ambassador Susan Rice hit the network talk shows hard with the YouTube claim. "What happened this week in Benghazi was a result, a direct result, of a heinous and offensive video that was widely disseminated..."

And another lie.

A full two weeks after the Benghazi attack, Obama told the UN General Assembly, "That is what we saw play out in the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world."

That was a lie, and the lies are compounding.

In January, Clinton told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, "With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night decided to go kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make?"

Her phony indignation is evident, and it's downright despicable. This was neither a video nor was it because "guys out for a walk one night decided to go kill some Americans." Clinton is not calling it what everyone knew it to be within hours of the incident.

"What difference at this point does it make?"

The difference now is that we know she, and Obama, were lying.

Yup, I would call that an orchestrated coverup!

The quotes from the Patriot Post have been taken out of context (duh..). For example, here is the relevant passage from Clinton’s remarks at the transfer of remains ceremony for the victims of the consulate attack:

This has been a difficult week for the State Department and for our country. We’ve seen the heavy assault on our post in Benghazi that took the lives of those brave men. We’ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful Internet video that we had nothing to do with. It is hard for the American people to make sense of that because it is senseless, and it is totally unacceptable.

The people of Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Tunisia did not trade the tyranny of a dictator for the tyranny of a mob. Reasonable people and responsible leaders in these countries need to do everything they can to restore security and hold accountable those behind these violent acts. And we will, under the President’s leadership, keep taking steps to protect our personnel around the world.

I could go on and on, but won't for the sake of the fact that we are up to 34 comments on a piece on gun violence and we're off on another tangent.

I do think it's a sad commentary that the Repubs continued to vote down funding for proper embassy security, but somehow find loads of money to investigate for months on end.

You Lan are the one that wants to keep chasing the Bengazi shining object. Then when facts are presented from a variety of sources that you don't like, and refuse to believe, you harken back to Booosh to say he did the same thing na na boo boo. Well guess what, you and your Lib friends and progressive/socialist hero Barrack Hussein Obama said the messiah and his administration would be transparent and far more ethical then Boosh.

Its a cover up and because of political motivations the Pres ignored an American citizen, who in the service to his country, calls for help and his country, locked in political battles at home, ignores him and he dies. Same kind of politics during the late 60's and 70's that caused Americans on a larger scale to die in Nam! Made me sick when I was a kid, makes me sick now. So don't go throwing your BS around about Repubs voting down proper funding for embassy security when all Odrama had to do was order a fly over or helicopter some help in to secure the compound. Obummer is a disgrace for this country. Both he and Hillary failed the 3am phone call!

Whatever you say...you're the boss. It's times like these when I refer to the old saying: They'll call you brilliant if you succeed, crazy if you don't.

Have a great Mother's Day weekend!

Extra security was requested before the attack. The attack was seen in real time by the U.S. The nearby military personnel were told to stand down during the attack and were not allowed to give aid. The Appeaser in Chief slept while our Ambassador was drug through the streets and sodomized with a bayonet. This will all come out in due time. This admin reminds me of the three monkeys with their hands over mouth, ears, and eyes.
Two months before election day and all is WELL! Not unlike Nixon, this will be the downfall of the chosen one. No matter how the media turns their cheek and fails in their job, the congressional hearings will do their job for them. The chosen one was able to get Osama Bin Laden due to the intelligence from waterboarding which he opposed. But he still took credit. President Campaigner is about to be debited.

Fort Hood: Workplace violence. Promise to Muslims on 2008 Apology tour: I will close Gitmo. Four dead Americans in Benghazi while I sleep. Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.

I am so sick of hearing this crap I could PUKE. More gun laws are not going to end the violence. Why do law abiding tax paying citizens have to jump through more hoops because of the nut cases out there? Can't anyone see that this is just the beginning to eventually disarming every law abiding citizen? A direct violation of your 2nd amendment right. I am neither Democrat nor Republican because both parties are one in the same. But the Democrats do want to disarm every last citizen is their main goal and the Republicans are starting to show the same signs whether you believe it or not. The best thing in this country anyone could do for themselves is to simply stop voting for these lunatics that run/ruin our daily lives. You're not free. Where did any of you get that crazy idea? Yea you're free alright. Free to be told what to do...or else. On General Election night simply stay home and read a good book. Any good book is far better than listening to some politician spewing psychobabble and who fills your pockets up with empty promises. The only person they care about is themselves. When is anybody going to get it?

Oh the naivety of those who “believe” that additional gun registration measures will “halt/stop gun violence.” I would like to know exactly how additional gun registration steps will insure less gun violence? Let’s look at this more closely and break it down. Who will be registering the guns they purchase? The people that present valid I.D. and personal information that don’t have a criminal record. Who commits the gun violence crimes? The majority of gun violence crimes are committed by “Criminals” and “Felons” who can’t legally purchase, own, or have a firearm in their possession. I doubt that they will be the ones going to gun stores and giving up all their personal information. It’s a known fact from Police reports that most criminals get their guns from stealing from homes, businesses, and vehicles and about the only time a criminal and their illegal gun shows up on the radar is when it is confiscated from a traffic stop, caught in the act of a burglary, home invasion, or auto theft. If getting a gun permit for each gun purchased from local law enforcement is actually reinstated, do people know how all of the registration process of law abiding citizen’s who purchase a gun is going to be paid for? More officers will probably be needed to process all of this redundant information as well as more computer equipment and programs will also need to be paid for somehow. What is the worth of all of this additional information to be collected? How will having this additional information stop gun violence? I find it quite curious that the people who have never owned, held, fired, and never took any courses on gun safety, nor know one gun from another and don’t know the parts of a firearm are the people who want to legislate bills and laws governing firearms. When I hear people like New York City Mayor Bloomberg and Vice President Biden discussing guns naming parts that don’t even exist on a gun and give very unsafe advice about using a shotgun in a possible home invasion scenario by firing a couple shots into the air to scare a possible criminal is not only unsafe, but it’s dangerous and would be illegal and would be considered a criminal act in many jurisdictions and yet the Vice President Joe Biden suggested this is how women could protect themselves. I shutter to think what the consequences might be if I were to give that same advice broadcast over the Media nationwide. You want to reduce gun violence? Then go to the heart of the matter to locations and areas where most gun violence takes place on a daily basis in robberies, burglaries, home invasions, muggings, and drive by shootings with a consistent Police presence in those areas where a big percentage of people walking the streets are carrying an illegal gun and gangs who post pictures on the internet of themselves all armed with guns in hand where most are only teenagers. Focus on enforcing gun laws already on the books. Legislate for tougher and longer sentences for those who commit crimes with a gun. There is so much that can be done immediately that isn’t being enforced and yet some people want to add more gun restrictions when the ones on the books now aren’t even being enforced. How stupid is that. People want action, well there’s plenty that can be acted on right now, yet little to no action is taking place. Why? Why? And, Why Not?
