Severe storms possible tonight

Showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight, and some could be severe, meteorologists say.

Some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The storms will be mainly south of I-96. Large hail to around 1 inch is possible. Heavy rains may lead to flash floods south of I-96 late this evening and overnight.

Meteorologists say tornadoes are possible tonight, mainly across Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

Forecast for the Grand Haven area tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5 a.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 65. Northeast wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 a.m. Mostly sunny, with temperatures falling to around 65 by 9 a.m. Breezy, with a north-northwest wind 14 to 20 mph.
