CNN readers love GH beaches

Grand Haven's Lake Michigan shoreline has earned more accolades — this time from readers of the CNN network's website who nominated it as a favorite "Can't-Miss Beach."

CNN originally posted a story called "22 can't-miss beaches" on Aug. 13. They then asked readers to submit their favorite beaches on the website's comments section.

"They had such an overwhelming response from the readers on favorite beach locales, they did another article and included another 20," explained Marci Cisneros, executive director of the Grand Haven Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We are listed in the more recent article."

Cisneros said CNN contacted Travel Michigan for images of the Michigan beaches named by readers, and the state travel bureau in turn contacted the Grand Haven visitors bureau.

"We had a short turnaround time, just a couple of hours, to select a few for them to consider," she said. "The image from Todd Marsee, Michigan Sea Grant, was selected."

Marsee's photo of the shoreline at sunset from behind a short dune includes this caption: "Grand Haven was a commercial ferry port on Lake Michigan before transforming into a family vacation destination with a musical fountain, boardwalk, beautiful beaches, lighthouses and historic downtown."

CNN readers also named Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, South Haven, Holland State Park, Oscoda, Oval and Warren Dunes State Park.

Have they fixed the direct line of sewer that floats pollutes and makes the water very unhealthy from Grand Rapids?

Actually, Grand Rapids has come a long way toward preventing the vast majority of its Combined Sewage Overflows in the last few years. They are on track to cutting off all CSO's by 2019.
