The Grand Haven boys soccer team tied Jenison Tuesday night, 2-2.
It was the Buccaneers who struck first, when Brentton Smith found Derek Braak for a goal.
But Jenison answered a few minutes later with a goal of their own.
Grand Haven would score again late, when Christian Dault was able to run down a loose ball. But the Bucs couldn’t find the net a third time, and Jenison had found it a second time as well, leaving the game at its’ final score of 2-2.
Grand Haven is now 1-0-3 on the season.
"This was one of those games where you can do a lot of things well and still not get the W,” said varsity head coach Aaron Dean. “While we kept much of the possession, Jenison did a great job of limiting our good looks and they really ran a good counter attack on their first goal. They got a great break on a restart when the ball was redirected off a deflection that found the back of net."
Dean said he was proud of his squad’s performance.
“I was pleased that we kept our composure and stayed focused on what we were trying to do in our game planning, Dean said. “The kids showed some character in coming back from behind and I think that will serve us well in the future.
“These pre-league games are meant to challenge and test us and tonight was a great chance to see our growth since the beginning of the season and focus on those areas (where) we need to improve before our tough O-K Red season starts in a couple of weeks.”
