The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazard Statement in effect from midnight to 8 p.m. Monday.
High wave action - 3-6 feet - and dangerous swimming conditions - including rip currents - are expected from Ludington down to South Haven, including beaches in Holland, Muskegon and the Grand Haven areas.
The cold front, moving into the area after midnight, will cause north winds from 15-25 mph on Labor Day.
Children should not enter the water without a life jacket or unsupervised, and those who do enter the water should be sure of their swimming ability, and know to swim parallel to the shore if caught in a rip current. Be wary of structural and longshore currents, which are expected to occur on Lake Michigan in this area.
