The National Weather Service said Tuesday's high temperatures reached 96 degrees at Caro in the Thumb, Three Rivers in the southwest and Troy in suburban Detroit.
The weather service reported 95-degree highs at Alpena, Bad Axe, Flint, Lambertville, Monroe, Port Hope and Ypsilanti. The high of 94 in Grand Rapids tied an 82-year-old record for the date.
It hit 87 in Muskegon at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Copper Harbor at the tip of upper Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula was the state's cool spot Tuesday, with a low of 61 and a high of 70.
Temperatures statewide are expected to drop considerably by the end of the week.
