The first open house is 6-8 p.m. today at Grand Haven Township Fire and Rescue, 13250 168th Ave.

Each open house will feature different displays and activities. Some have fire truck rides, a burn house demonstration and safety information.

"Prevent Kitchen Fires" is this year’s theme. Research conducted by the National Fire Protection Association indicates that cooking is the leading cause of home fires and injuries.

Other local open houses planned for the week:

— Thursday, Oct. 10, 6-8 p.m.: at Spring Lake Township Station No. 1, 16681 148th Ave., south of M-104.

— Saturday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: at Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, 519 Washington Ave.

— Monday, Oct. 14, 6-8 p.m.: at Crockery Township, 16875 Main St., Nunica; and at Ferrysburg, corner of 174th Avenue and North Shore Drive.
