As momentum for broad immigration reform builds in the evangelical community, several church leaders from the Grand Rapids area met Tuesday night to pray for immigration reform rooted in the biblical values of welcoming the stranger among us.

Tuesday’s vigil at LaGrave Church in Grand Rapids was one of more than 400 gatherings and events happening across the country Oct. 12-20. Evangelical Christians are meeting as part of “Pray4Reform: Gathered Together in Jesus’ Name,” a week of prayer that continues the Evangelical Immigration Table's ongoing Pray for Reform campaign.

Nationwide, more than 175,000 people have signed onto the effort as prayer partners.

With immigration reform next on Congress’ full agenda this fall, evangelical Christians are stressing the urgency of broad, bipartisan reform.

“We are praying for freedom for all those who are trapped by a broken immigration system," explained the Rev. Mike Hoogeboom of LaGrave Christian Reformed Church. "Immigrants are captives to a system that offers and gives jobs to willing workers regardless of documentation. The system says, ‘Come and work!’ but falls short of providing legal status to willing workers. We are praying for immigrants, for our lawmakers and for immigration reform that reflects the values that we find in Scripture.”

I'd far prefer that their prayers be directed for the souls, and family and friends of the souls, who are no longer with us because of the many crimes of illegal aliens and their progeny.

I also wish they would direct their prayers at the poor taxpayers who will be supporting amnesty-granted illegals through entitlements and prison costs

GAO Updates Cost of Criminal Aliens

By Jessica Vaughan, April 23, 2011

"The incarceration of criminal aliens cost the federal government more than $1.6 billion in 2009, according to a new GAO report. http://gao.gov/products/GAO-11-187 In addition, taxpayers shelled out tens of millions more that year to incarcerate aliens in state prisons and local jails.

Other findings:

About 25 percent of the federal prison population in 2010 was comprised of foreign nationals. They numbered 55,000. Their numbers are growing, although slightly more slowly than the overall federal prison population.
State and local correctional systems that applied for payments under the federal SCAAP program in 2009 reported 296,000 illegal aliens who were jailed at least four days for a felony or two misdemeanors.
The average incarcerated alien had seven arrests, and committed an average of 12 offenses.
Twenty-five percent of the aliens had 16 or more offenses. Nine percent had just one arrest.

The number of criminal aliens who were removed and then later re-apprehended for illegal re-entry declined by 35 percent from 2009 to 2010, a reversal from the trend of the last few years.
Of the total 2009 federal expenses related to criminal aliens of $1.6 billion, about $1.3 billion was for the incarceration of aliens in the federal Bureau of Prisons system. Another $323 million went for payments to states and localities as partial reimbursement for their costs. This cost includes millions of dollars in payments to sanctuary jurisdictions (See "Subsidizing Sanctuaries").
States and localities are incurring significant additional costs to incarcerate illegal aliens, since the SCAAP payments cover only a small fraction of the total cost. The report said that Texas spends about $12,000 per illegal alien inmate per year, and California spends about $34,000 per illegal alien inmate per year.
California taxpayers spent about $1.1 billion to incarcerate illegal aliens in 2009.
In 2009, Los Angeles County spent $139 million jailing illegal aliens. New York City spent $88 million; Orange County, Calif., spent $74 million, Maricopa County, Ariz., spent $42 million, and Harris County, Texas, spent $30 million.

The report also includes information on the number of incarcerated illegal aliens by state, the nationalities of the alien offenders, and the types of crimes they committed.

To put your paste and copy into proper perspective:

Nationally, since 1994, the violent crime rate has declined 34% and the property crime rate has fallen 26%, even as the number of undocumented immigrants has doubled. According to the conservative Americas Majority Foundation, crime rates during the period 1999–2006 were lowest in states with the highest immigration growth rates. During that period the total crime rate fell 14% in the 19 top immigration states, compared to only 7% in the other 31. Truth is, foreign-born people in America — whether they are naturalized citizens, permanent residents, or undocumented — are incarcerated at a much lower rate than native-born Americans, according to the National Institute of Corrections.

As to the rest - Follow the Money.

For decades, drug crimes contributed to an explosion in the size of the federal prison system, far outpacing any other charges brought by prosecutors.

Now, just as the federal government has pulled back the throttle on the drug war, it is embarking on an unprecedented campaign to criminally prosecute undocumented immigrants crossing the border. The result: A new wave of non-violent offenders are flooding the nation's prisons.

Why, you may ask?

The zero-tolerance policy for immigration violations has its roots in the Bush administration, through a border enforcement program called Operation Streamline. The plan was designed to get tough on illegal immigration by arresting and prosecuting those crossing the border, instead of simply deporting them or placing them in a civil detention center.

And who profits?

The expanding pool of federal inmates has meant steady business for the two largest U.S. private prison corporations, particularly as populations in state prison systems have begun to decline. Last year, Corrections Corporation of America derived 30 percent of its revenue from federal contracts with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Prisons, a total of $546 million, according to company financial statements. The GEO Group received more than 25 percent of its revenue from those two agencies last year, a total of $384 million.

Read all about it!

GAO or Huffington Post? Laughable!

What part of " The average incarcerated alien had seven arrests, and committed an average of 12 offenses.
Twenty-five percent of the aliens had 16 or more offenses. Nine percent had just one arrest. is difficult to understand?

Or Study: Second generation immigrants commit more crimes than their parents http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/1...

Reminder - Obama issues another amnesty by executive order...we were warned http://www.examiner.com/article/...

The murders, rapes, drunk driving killings, etc. are on Obama's head - and now he wants to quadruple his amnesty by getting Congress to agree to let 30 Million illegals to be good, welfare eating citizens.

You should be relieved to know that, under Obama, The United States deported more than 400,000 illegal immigrants in 2012, the most of any year in the nation’s history, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports.

I won't provide the link, as that seems to trigger in you a violent, spontaneous bout of laughter, for some reason....Immigrant Madness!

More, faster, please!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA good luck with that. Very resourceful.

deuce liti

It's so sad that these people believe that God will change policy. Man's policy. That's why politics will never solve any real problems, only proving that those who rely of them are only chasing their tails.

For the blind Evangelicals:
"Man has dominated man to his injury." No matter what, man's rule will always fail because man is weak.

Of course they believe all will go to heaven (which one wonders why even create earth at all): "and just a little while longer and the wicked one will be no more... But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." [Psalms 37:10,11]. So there will be a day when everyone will be at peace and live on earth.

"He is the true God, The former of the earth and the maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing." [Isaiah 45:18].

In fact, when that day will be even Jesus didn't know: "concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the son, but only the Father." [Matthew 24:36]. (Which also proves Jesus isn't God)

Anyway, so they aren't supposed to be praying for God to interfere in Man's flawed political system or "God Bless the U.S." Or any other such tripe. They are supposed to be praying for the end of this wicked system of things so none of this continues.

What a bunch of wolves/troglodytes.
