National Guard soldiers heading to Afghanistan

More than 100 Michigan Army National Guard soldiers will get a send-off this weekend in Midland before eventually heading to Afghanistan.

The members of the 1460th Transportation Company will head to Fort Hood, Texas, for training before serving in Afghanistan for nine months. The soldiers with the supply company will support Operation Enduring Freedom.

A gathering is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Midland Dow High School. The public is invited.

The 1460th Transportation Company includes soldiers from across the region, including Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties.

Never seem,s fair, the service men and women are sent any place in the world about this time of year, meanwhile the politicians get to enjoy a long holidays with their family's, I am sick of hearing about the problems with middle east when there is so much to do at home.
